reacquainted with his soul after the galactic battle with the gatekeeper of hades, edmx and his craft bulb into view from hyperdrive. emerging from an imperfect stasis, the pilot lay slumped over the controls of his ship. beneath the glaze of his vizor his eyes looked milky white, opaque cataracts had almost sealed them. the craft was being pulled slowly toward sigma orionis on invisible magnetic currents. flurries of dust danced around the pilots window like fireflies. in the far distance the horse head nebulae dwarfs the tiny craft with its mountainous cosmic majesty.

a concept taken from an old book of charles darwin,&#8232,where he theorized the existence of a brain in plant roots, in order to feature a stylistic evolution from ambient to techno. a free way of thinking without schemes, as we move into territory that we love, in the boundless fields of electronic music. vinyls are limited and numbered with stencil artwork printed on the cover made to create a unique piece of each copy.

following her flowerhead single which was backed with a hugely successful spencer parker remix, swedens la fleur returns to her own fledgling power plant imprint for it s third release, eavesdropper. strong, melodic and timeless house music paired with stunning artwork, power plants remit is a simple but attractive one. the beautiful images of olaf hajek, wilfried pordiech sätty and now hans arnold provide a striking outer to a core that, in just two releases, is already essential for many a house fan. former dancer sanna la fleur, label boss and the artist in question for the label s third 12 inch, employs a variety of sunny major key chords and whispering female vocals on title cut >eavesdropper< to great ends. spacious and gentle yet undeniably propulsive >eavesdropper< is an infectious skipping groove with a strikingly beautiful feel underpinned with nagging bass. the flipside cut tjuvlyssnerskan takes its name from the swedish feminine noun for eavesdropper yet reverses the gender of the vocals of its counterpart. added dusty loops, poignant pianos and another weighty bass create a piece of house that much more than the sum of its parts. the > eavesdropper< is another triumph for the power plant label and la fleur while also being a shining example of how to release records with love and care.

last year s acclaimed sea power & change ep, a melancholic project from the mind of celebrated portuguese powerhouse tiago, is now revisited through the lens of three essential esp institute artists. side a gives us a take on strange fruit by our heroes soft rocks — a smacked up dub/boogie rendition leaving the beautifully dark mood intact whilst twisting the the rhythms toward the tough side. on side b, secret circuit (eddie ruscha of laughing light of plenty, and soon to release his solo release for esp) stuffs wild combination in his saddle and takes us for a ride through a futuristic version of the wild west with a funky bassline and distant whistles, only to be rounded out by a blissed-out epic re-rendering of yesterday is gone by somberero galaxys jonny nash. its a family affair.

lowriders remains true to form, keeping it skewed, crooked, and freaky as hell, in their latest limited edition compilation. the power shuffles ep compiles seven of the most forward thinking juke/footwork inspired tunes from all over the planet, into one vicious slab of vinyl goodness. created with a root in the chi town sound, but operating somewhere within the fringe between genres, this album delivers a hyper fusion of style.

bintus with corrosion controlwades into an especially grizzled realm of acid house and electro and is the first artist to be released on power vacuum- a new label from milo smee. tracking an irregular path since 95 from techno to prog rock and back again, kruton, binary chaffinch, chrome hoof, 5 mic cluster, booze and invincible scum have been some of the vehicles involved.

organs of love are the power-sleaze duo of james mckinven (organs, love) and alicia matthews (vocals, love). james mckinvens musical odyssey started with playing synth in (kraftwerk, suicide-inspired) electro band berlin blondes. he then moved on to altered images. after that he worked in genetic studios learning from the modern day genius that was producer martin rushent (human league, the stranglers, the buzzcocks). then went on to form one dove and worked with maverick genius andy weatherall. after that he drifted back to where it all started, analog electro, and miss alicia matthews. alicia matthews has quite a different background – one from fine art and performance. through working together at the same bar and having many intoxicating late night chats, they decided to try to get back to a 70s theatrical, musical performance: where live music and art combine for something beyond the rock gig vibe. and luckily enough, miss matthews has quite the pair of pipes – a true vocal delight. the result is organs of love … who frequently perform live around glasgow and have quite the reputation of thee band to see. videos can be provided, but they are not for the faint-hearted! not that optimo music ever provide a dull moment …

following edit maestro onur engins debut release on gamm was never going to be easy. but once again he delivers two excellent and respectful rewires of perennial classics from james mason & kool & the gang. quality!

next up in studio barnhus split coloured 10 inch series (the previous installment was acid andy and axel boman on yellow vinyl) is handsome newcomer hnny and barnhus very own desperado kornel kovacs. on the a side, hnny takes a saccharine rnb cover of perhaps the greatest power ballad ever and turns it into a perfect little edit – as simple as it is inspired, this is an obvious end-of-the-night-turn-the-lights-up-in-the-club-anthem if we ever heard one. on the logo side, kornel kovacs brings the heat with down since 92 - a bass-driven, vocal-laced pop house song about hate, love and jealousy. break it down! red vinyl, no digital - limited to 300 copies worldwide. barnhus bang the party once again! freshness.

la fleurs certified hit, the flowerhead ep, launched her power plant records imprint into the stratosphere in 2010. following the flowerhead ep would be no easy task, but its one that young danish talent jesper ryom takes in his stride. the second chapter of power plant records story exists within jesper ryoms refined musical universe, where samples and live guitar merge and mesh for a kaleidescopic whole thats greater than its parts. as ryom drifts in a dream-dance state, he delves further into sonic experimentation, but is ever mindful of the dancer and the dj.
